The Russian Black Terrier is a large, confident working breed known for loyalty, intelligence and a calm yet vigilant demeanour; they are typically steady with family, protective of home and need regular mental and physical stimulation. As an energetic, powerful dog they benefit from daily walks, varied activity and clear, consistent training plus early socialisation. Prospective owners should consider space — a secure garden helps — and be prepared for regular grooming of the thick, coarse coat and routine health checks. They often suit experienced or committed families who can provide time and structure rather than living in a flat.
