The Italian Spinone is a large, sturdy gundog known for a patient, affectionate and slightly reserved temperament; they are gentle with children and other pets, intelligent but sometimes stubborn, and benefit from consistent, positive training. They suit active households where regular walks, opportunities to sniff and swim, and moderate daily exercise are on offer, and they do best with some outdoor space rather than being confined in a tiny flat. Their rough, wiry coat needs routine grooming and ear checks, and prospective owners should be aware of breed-health considerations such as hip and elbow screening.
