The Kooikerhondje is a small-to-medium Dutch gundog known for its cheerful, alert and affectionate nature. Typically lively and agile, it stands around 33–40 cm at the shoulder and suits active households that can provide daily walks, play and mental stimulation. Intelligent and eager to please, Kooikerhondjes respond well to training but can be reserved with strangers and dislike long periods alone, so early socialisation and companionship are important. Their medium-length coat needs regular brushing and basic care, and prospective owners should consider space, exercise and time commitment when buying or adopting.
