English Setters are medium-to-large gundogs known for their gentle, affectionate temperament and sociable nature; they tend to be good with families and other dogs yet can be sensitive and respond best to patient, positive training. Energetic by nature, they thrive on regular, vigorous exercise and scent work — long walks and off‑lead time in secure areas help keep them mentally and physically satisfied. Prospective owners should consider space and time commitments and be prepared for moderate grooming to manage their feathered coat, plus consistent training to channel their intelligence.
