The Basset Fauve de Bretagne is a small-to-medium, short-legged scenthound with a wiry coat and an affectionate, independent nature. Typically lively and curious rather than hyperactive, they enjoy daily walks and scent work, respond well to patient training but can be a little stubborn, and are often vocal when following a trail. They suit households that can offer regular exercise and a securely fenced garden, and they usually adapt well to family life though early socialisation is important. Grooming is relatively low-maintenance, but mental stimulation and consistent routines help prevent boredom.
