Compact and characterful, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier is a small, long‑bodied Scottish terrier (about 20–28 cm at the shoulder, 8–11 kg) known for its affectionate, independent and slightly stubborn nature. They’re spirited and alert, enjoy moderate daily exercise and mental challenges, and make loyal companions for families and singles alike. Before buying or adopting, consider their grooming needs (regular brushing and occasional hand‑stripping or clipping), potential prey drive requiring a secure garden, and the value of consistent training and socialisation; they adapt well to flats if given walks and play.
