The Grand Bleu De Gascogne is a large, muscular scent hound known for calm, affectionate behaviour with family, steady temperament and a strong instinct to follow scents; it is sociable with other dogs but can be independent and quite vocal on a trail. These dogs need regular, vigorous exercise and mental stimulation, so they suit active households with secure outdoor space rather than small flats, and benefit from early socialisation and consistent training. Grooming is straightforward but ear checks and general health care are important.
