Robust and dignified, the Presa Canario is a large, muscular guardian dog known for loyalty, confidence and a calm, sometimes serious temperament. They are alert and protective rather than hyperactive, and need regular physical exercise and mental stimulation to stay content. Prospective owners should be prepared for space requirements, consistent training, early socialisation and firm, experienced leadership; routine grooming is straightforward but regular health checks and responsible management are important. Not ideally suited to first-time owners or small urban flats without a secure area.
