The Selkirk Rex is a friendly, laid-back cat known for its distinctive loose, curly coat and affectionate, sociable nature. Typically medium to large and quite sturdy, Selkirk Rexes enjoy regular play and interactive toys but are not overly demanding of activity, preferring gentle games and cosy laps as much as climbing opportunities. Prospective owners should consider their needs for moderate grooming to prevent tangles, routine veterinary care, and measures to reduce hairballs. They adapt well to family life and other pets, and will live happily in apartments provided there is some vertical space and stimulation. When buying or adopting, check breeder or rescue history and be prepared for ongoing grooming and engagement.
