Smart, affectionate and athletic, Lurchers are a versatile crossbreed typically combining sighthound speed with the steadiness of a working dog. They tend to be medium to large, slim and agile, with a calm, loyal temperament at home but a strong prey drive and high activity needs outdoors. Prospective owners should consider whether they can provide regular vigorous exercise, secure fencing and early socialisation, and be mindful of grooming and routine health checks rather than intensive care. Lurchers suit active families or singles who enjoy walks and canine sports, but they may not be ideal for homes with very small pets unless well managed.
