The Maltese is a small, affectionate companion dog known for its gentle, lively temperament and long, silky coat. Typically weighing under 4–5 kg, they enjoy short walks and playful indoor activity rather than vigorous exercise, making them well suited to flats or family homes, though they still need daily stimulation and socialisation. Prospective owners should consider regular grooming, dental care and routine health checks, plus patient training to prevent fussiness. They thrive on attention and can be nervous around rough handling, so supervision with very young children is advisable.
